2019 Opera Idol
Friday, March 8th at 7:00pm
Evanston, IL• Three Crowns Park, 2323 McDaniel AvenueFor the 13th consecutive year, VOICExperience returns to the Midwest for the annual Opera Idol vocal competition in Chicago, Illinois.
A panel of four judges will select the winner. Five singers compete in a Master Class format with Sherrill Milnes for a full scholarship plus airfare to Savannah, Georgia, to attend the Milnes VOICE Studio in August valued at $3,000.
In addition, audience members will be given a chance to vote, selecting a “People’s Choice” award. That singer will receive a $1,000 scholarship toward the cost of participating in VOICExperience.

Ms Grossman was last seen in our Fall Phantoms and Scary Tunes concert at the Davenport House this past October and is joined by some of her favorite colleagues — including tenor and SVF favorite Peter Lake and SVF Executive Director and soprano Maria Zouves!

Santiago Ballerini, tenor: A Co-Production with the Savannah Music Festival

Savannah, GA• Trinity United Methodist Church, 225 W President StreetBeginning his American career in Savannah years ago with the Sherrill Milnes VOICE Programs, Santiago Ballerini is now recognized in the Americas as one of the leading tenors in bel canto repertoire. Ballerini hails from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and has sung in all major opera houses in South and North America. He most recently covered the roles of Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Count Almaviva in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, and appeared in Buenos Aires at the Teatro Colón as il Tenor Italiano in Strauss’s Der RosenKavalier and at Teatro Argentino as Don Ramiro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola. Ballerini is a regular performer with The Atlanta Opera and continues to work with the Savannah VOICE Festival, who is co-producing this event. In this SMF debut, he is accompanied by renowned pianist Howard Watkins—a frequent associate of some of the world’s leading musicians both on the concert stage and as an assistant conductor at The Metropolitan Opera.
