I Pagliacci & The Birthday Clown

I Pagliacci:
Canio’s troupe of commedia dell’arte have come into town to entertain the village. But Nedda’s restless spirit and her dangerous liaisons lead to Tonio’s wrath and the troupe’s ill fate. Leoncavallo’s great masterwork is an earthly look at humanity, jealousy and revenge. Coupled with the comical new composition of “The Birthday Clown,” it’s a perfect evening of theater’s Comedy and Tragedy.

A 90-minute opera in Italian with English Supertitles

The Birthday Clown:
The Savannah VOICE Festival commissions another great work from its composer-in-residence, Michael Ching with an opera “short” about a struggling magician and the life he laments. A lighthearted, 20-minute work is a great compliment to the dramatic “Pagliacci” in an evening of laughter and tears!

This new SVF Commission is in English with Supertitles

This performance of I Pagliacci is sponsored by Callie & Helen Downing.
The Birthday Clown is sponsored by Claudia and David Seyle.
